APPLICATIONS |
||
Isonicotinic acid, an isomer of nicotinic acid, is a six-membered ring structure compound composed of five carbon atoms and a nitrogen which replace one carbon-hydrogen unit in the benzene ring, plus a carboxyl side chain at 4-position (nicotinic acid has a carboxyl side chain at 3-position). Isonicotinic acid is chiefly used in antituberculosis drugs especially Isoniazid (isonicotinic acid hydrazide), the most effective one. Isonicotinic acid and its derivatives are used in manufacturing pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Niacin acts to reduce plasma cholesterol, as a vasodilator and to treat pellagra. Niacin is used for the prophylaxis. Their derivatives are used for these effects. | ||
